What You'll Get Out of the LVT Scholarship Program

Grow professionally and take your career to greater heights! Our LVT scholarship program gives Cornerstone team members the opportunity to earn an associate's degree in veterinary technology, take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), and become a successful Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the state of New York.

Eligibility Requirements

All CVH team members interested in applying for our LVT Penn Foster Scholarship Program must meet the following admission requirements.

Some of these requirements include:

  • Being employed at CVH full time for the last continuous 12-month period
  • Not being on any disciplinary action by CVH in the last continuous 6-month period
  • Must be age 17 and up
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Students must successfully complete and pass both parts of the Penn Foster online Skills Assessment Tests
  • Have access to high-speed internet
  • Have access to a Microsoft Windows-based computer running Windows 10 or later, or an Apple Mac computer running macOS Sierra Version 11.2 or later
  • Have access to Microsoft Office 2019 or Microsoft 365
  • Have an email account to complete the Penn Foster program

Can you successfully complete and pass the Penn Foster Assessment Tests in Basic Math and Basic Reading?
Do you have access to high-speed internet?
Do you have access to a Microsoft® Windows® based computer running Windows 10® or later or an Apple® Mac® computer running macOS® Sierra Version 11.2 or later, Microsoft® Office 2019 or Microsoft 365® and an email account to complete this program with Penn Foster?
Do you possess the self-motivation and discipline required to complete a self-guided online education program?
Do you possess the Physical Requirements necessary to perform the duties of an LVT?
Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs without assistance
Must possess dexterity to operate equipment and work with animals
Do you possess the Insurance Requirements to complete the externships required by Penn Foster?
Students are required to have health insurance in order to complete the externships. Please note that Aflac or Worker's Compensation will not satisfy this requirement. In addition, some externship sites may also require the student to obtain liability insurance to protect the clinical site if the student is injured.
Do you have the ability to sit for and complete the required proctored examinations as set forth by Penn Foster?
Selected courses throughout the semester will have a separate proctored exam unless a final exam is taken at the end of that specific course. All Proctored Exams for VET courses are closed book. No textbooks, study guides/units, or notes may be used during any VET course proctored exam. All VET courses are eligible for remote proctoring along with some general studies courses. The remote proctored exams are at a cost of $10 per exam.
Do you have the ability to complete the required externships required by Penn Foster?
There are two required externships:
Semester 2 - 200 hours (Cats and Dogs)
Semester 4 - 250 hours (Cats, Dogs, Large Animals, Rodents, Birds, Rabbits)
Do you have the ability to actively participate in webinars, discussion boards as well as submit projects as required by Penn Foster?
Webinars are required for most VET classes.
Discussion boards are required for some general studies courses.
